This series reminded me of Lorraine Heath’s Lost Lords of Pembroke (which was exceptionally written) so I decided to try and read it. Somehow at 20% of the book I was beginning to regret spending time, effort and money on the book. But I always finish what I start so I read the book until the end (major page skimming). Since this is a first book in a series naturally it sets the foundation stories of the rest of the books in the series. There are also sub plots (sibling relationship, love stories of minor characters)
The prologue was okay. It mad me curious about the story. But the way that the rest of the story was written was disjointed. The plot was there but the execution and delivery was chopped up. The writing did not weave the story flawlessly together. There was humor but it did not really add to the value and depth of the characters. I felt like it was the kind of humor expected in a stand up comedy. A bit too contrived. A bit too much sarcastic humor also that it clashed with the overall theme and mood of the dialogues instead of enhancing it. Even the sex scene (one sex scene for the main characters but not really sure since I skimmed quite a lot of pages) did not add value to the relationship of the characters as portrayed in the story.
Did I enjoy the book? Overall, not really. Although the ending was okay it just did not tie the story together because of the poor way the story was unfolded at the beginning and middle of the book.
Characters. Hmmmm. The hero for me did not have enough depth to him. Towards the end there were redeeming actions but personality and character of the hero was a turn off. But hey, everyone has a love story even people that are not easy to like or relate to like the hero of this story. The heroine was okay. She was strong and overall a nice person. The way the book was written I am not quite sure the hero and heroine really fell in love nor did they realize it (I am not even quite sure they fell in lust at least that would have been a connection).

Heart Delight Lost Lords of Radcliffe Book 1 edition by Cheryl Holt Romance eBooks Reviews

I was going to give this three stars only because I am a big fan of this author but just couldn't for a few reasons. I have loved some of her earlier works such as "The Way of the Heart," "Love's Peril," "Deeper Than Desire,"and especially Complete Abandon," and "Double Fantasy. Loved them and would recommend them over this.

What was she thinking here? She does like the overally innocent, dimwitted and even pathetic heroines. The type that yes, you want to slap. Her strong points are many and for one, her hero's who are usually great. Super masculine, sexy but also realistic probably too realistic for many to the way men were back in that time period. Like Michael. She also excels with her witty, quick dialogue, secondary characters which are never boring and crafts fantastic villans. However, many complain she is extremely repetitive and she is. She has been there and done this, with the loose sister or cousin and the super masculine side-kick of the hero who seduces that sister or cousin and she did it again here. Her books are never boring though. They manage to keep you interested for some reason. Sometimes it is a bit wordy and this was, a little too much dialogue and in this case more dialogue then steam!! Hello? There was one brief love scene between the hero and heroine!! The secondary characters in their love scenes were much more steamy by far. Did not get that at all and that is one reason for my three stars. She slips up with modern slang too that many others have noticed in other books as well. In some parts, especially with the secondary characters, I felt like I was listening to a 1930s sailor and a "Broad" of that same era. She saluted him like a "private in the army?" What? They had "privates" in the army in England in those days? "Hitch your wagon to mine," was another one. Come on. That was pretty bad. Coupled with the heroine that I think many hated and this was a miss for me. The ending was also pretty lackluster and rushed. I regret that I went ahead and ordered the second book in this series so fast before I was even half done with this.
This book was great ! I was half way through when I ordered the next 2 of the series of 3. Yes, it was that good that I wanted to continue on with the characters in book #1 which is a stand alone as are the others. I loved the plot, the characters and the surprises. Michael is the lead male and he is one virile, tough, street smart man who owns his own gambling club where the wealthy titled gentlemen go to play. He's a real no nonsense guy who has a sidekick that helps him keep the reputation as a man you don't mess with. He's wealthy, single and not looking for a wife or even a regular girl. He has all the women he wants and he only wants them for one thing. He has no idea where he came from. As an orphan he learned how to take care of himself on London's mean streets and so he's a self made man. Magdelena (Maggie) is from a wealthy family but she lives and runs a mission center on the same street as Michael. She barges into his life with a complaint and they can't stand each other. But that's going to change. No more spoilers. This is a terrific book and you should grab it now.
I have read a few books by this author, and have enjoyed some. But, this book? FAIL !!! Author presents her H as a man to be admired. She presents her hh as a woman with a backbone. It goes down hill from there. He keeps using and abusing her. She keeps allowing it with a dimwit's smile. He lies. H e sleeps with her and then a trollop soon after. OH !! Did I mention he is ENGAGED ??? To another woman ?
This book just turns gross after the 3rd or 4th chapter and author never redeems H or the hh. He is still an arrogant bastard at the end.. Don't read it. PLEASE! Save yourself the torture!!
